February 2010

I really started to sink my teeth in with this project.
we were asked to come up with a design philosophy and create something that reflects it.
I've always wanted to help people see that Fashion and Fashion related media is severly influence by politics.
After studying Various Subjects which perturb me and i wanted to expand on...i eventually chose the cotton crisis in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is a former soviet union state. Now run by a dictator. Children are forced out of school at gun point to the cotton field, where very few are paid to harvest cotton that could easily be collected with the machinery the country has.
Not only is there a Large exclamation mark over human rights in Uzbekistan, but the intensive cotton farming has lead to eautirfication and over irrigation, resulting in the drying up of uzbek's large inland sea that used to be abundant in fish.
the most shocking thing i found out when conducting my research is so little people know what is happening let alone Uzbekistan existed...

Beginning the second year we had to create a Trend book on illustrator.
I struggled alot at first as technology and me aren't friends.
but i really wanted to make it work so i knuckled down and im so pleased with the results.
I like to think that each page has a trend story and i focus on a mood to each page that reflected the clothes.

For my Final project in my first year of studies we were given the amazing opportunity to design an editorial.
I was given two words: Extreme Neoclassicism
I developed the concept by looking deep into the meaning of Neoclassicism. A word that to me personally meant reclaiming a style to represent something new.
I interpreted this to the recent trend of men in women's clothes that dominated the major publications for quite some time.
To me it was almost a back lash of the liberation of women- where the male gender has stood fairly still in this revolution.
It is ok for a woman to dress as a man for still a taboo for a man to be overtly feminine...why?

All About Me

My name is Stephanie Beaven.
I'm a student at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth studying for a Ba (hons) in Fashion.
I have recently discovered that my real passion is designing editorials and photo shoots with a focus on representing clothes and social/political commentaries in a unique way.
My ideal situation is to present new ideals in an aesthetically stunning form, that makes people not just want to treasure the images but strike a chord with their intellect.

I enjoy every part of Art Direction.
from designing the concept-developing it, making the props, styling and being hands on with the photographers to create an image that makes me brim with pride.
Pride is what really motivates me.

My Favourite photographers are:
Jeff Bark
Tim Walker
Nick Knight

Mainly because they always do something new each time to captivate their audience.
